Why are my radiators cold at the bottom?

One of the most common causes is sludge build-up inside your radiators. Over time, rust, dirt, and debris can collect in your heating system and settle at the bottom of radiators, stopping heat from circulating properly.

Signs your system may have sludge build-up:

✔ Radiators cold at the bottom✔ Heating takes longer to warm up✔ Some rooms feel colder than others✔ Strange boiler or radiator noises✔ Higher heating bills

Can it be fixed?

In many cases, yes. Depending on the severity, your system may benefit from:

  • A heating system check

  • Radiator balancing

  • A chemical clean or powerflush

  • Installing or checking a magnetic filter

Keeping your heating system maintained can help improve efficiency, reduce energy costs, and keep your home warmer.

If you’ve noticed cold radiators or your heating isn’t performing as it should, our team at RF Henderson Heating, Plumbing are always happy to help.
